IN THE NAME OF GOD

     We in the Kerman NGO House and Hamyaran, Iran NGO Resource Center are very happy and pleased to launch this website YARANE BAM or FRIENDS OF BAM. This website, which has been facilitated with a modest grant for NGO capacity building from the German NGO friend, MALTESER, is at the service of the NGOs serving the cause of rehabilitation and development of Bam and the earthquake victims. Save the Children has also provided a small grant for NGOs active in child related work to network. We will start with this website and when information and data increases in volume we will consider the possibility of creating a website for children. The name has been chosen in consultation with the representatives of Bam-based NGOs and CBOs.

     The need for such a website has been consistently emphasized by the local NGOs. We hope this website will document and disseminate information on NGO activities in Bam, define needs of the people, with which civil society and private sector partners can identify with. We hope, particularly with help of our international NGO partners and the UN family members active in Bam, the site will be used for transfer of knowledge and information on good local and international practices. We particularly look forward to local NGOs providing information on their profile, capacities and activities to be shared by all stakeholders concerned for the future of Bam’s citizens. Government friends have also repeatedly called upon us to ensure that a continuous and sustained process of transparent information flow on work of local NGOs is put in place for the people and the public departments. They cite for us the systematic information sharing undertaken by INGOs.

     We are at very early stages of planning. We hope all our friends will bear with us, as we develop this website to serve as a forum for information and knowledge sharing, documenting success stories and networking. We will start with existing information available to the Kerman NGO House and to Hamyaran. Kerman NGO House has documented the work done by local NGOs, many with help of Iranians, including those living abroad and international NGOs. Hamyran has facilitated many stakeholder consultation meetings and conducted several workshops and training programmes. We hope that through collaboration of all stakeholders the website will prove useful to all partners. We do urge all those interested to help us in planning and in management of this website. We wish to thank MALTESER, Save the Children and all those who helped in supporting this effort.
